The Balkans

One region of the world I have always had fascination for is the Balkan peninsula.  The region sits in southeastern Europe and holds many countries who were once part of the former Yugoslavia.  Vice.com, a website I have mentioned before in my blog, has created a great set of videos to open westerners' eyes to the region - its celebrations and struggles.  Here is Part 1 of 7.  Enjoy!

Happy New Year!

The end of 2011 featured my Auburn Tigers topping off the Virginia Cavaliers.  The team looked great, and now it's time to hire some coordinators.  Winter break is coming to a close, and I'm almost ready to head back to Auburn, settle in, and start my classes.  Originally, I would be graduating in May but not any more.  I'm not regretting taking a couple of victory laps.

Here's to 2012...best of luck to my family and friends!

I gotta be in Times Square for New Years at least once!

Crazy North Koreans

I ran across this magazine's website featuring various travel documentaries.  One caught me attention - It's about these North Korean labor camps in Siberia...pretty crazy right?  Shane Smith travels via the Trans-Siberia Railway to find these camps.  Here is a link to part 1 of 7.  Part 6 is next to be released on Monday (12/19).  Check it out if you enjoy travelling off the beaten path!

I'm done!

My Fall semester has finally wrapped up at Auburn.  The last push is always the hardest, and on Thursday night, the night of my birthday, I was up late finishing my last model of the semester.  Luckily, it turned out to be one of the best in my opinion.

For our materials and methods final, we had to construct a section model of an existing building.  We worked in groups of two.  We chose Torre Cube, which is a random office building in Guadalajara, Mexico.  I know, I didn't know there were architectural buildings in Mexico either, but this one actually looks quite nice.

Auburn gets the 2011 Chick-Fil-A Bowl

With a 7-5 record, the Auburn Tigers will face the Virginia Cavaliers in the 2011 Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta. I have a feeling it will be a good game.  Good thing we don't have to face Virginia Tech or Clemson - They actually have quarterbacks who can throw.

The Iron Bowl

For Auburn, the 2011 Iron Bowl was embarrassing. The offense could only muster 140 yards, and most of those came when Alabama started to play conservatively. I think the game shed some much needed light on issues going on with the team.  Ted Roof's defense has been horrible the entire year, and the Iron Bowl was no exception.  I hope to see a change at defensive coordinator before our bowl game.  For our offense, I was disappointed with the play calling.  It was #2 Alabama, I think Gus Malzahn could have been a little more aggressive.  If Gus goes on to be a head coach at the end of the season, that's fine - I think we should hire an offensive coordinator who runs a pro-style offense.  They seem to be better suited for the SEC.  If Gus stays, that's okay too.  I have confidence he can make something work (a better offensive line would do wonders).

Hopefully Chizik is thinking about who the next DC will be

Final Proposal

It's a day or two late, and not yet complete, but here is my group's proposal for our courthouse.  I will revise it with an elevation after Thanksgiving.
